Why We Recommend It: Bolongo Bay Beach is a family-owned, pleasantly low-key all-inclusive on the south coast of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands. It comes with two very nice open-air restaurants, a pool deck with a swim-up bar, and a beautiful stretch of beach. It’s a relatively small, friendly, relaxed place but with plenty of activities, mainly water sports including scuba diving, and live entertainment in the evenings. Why We Recommend It: On Tortola, British Virgin Islands, Sugar Mill is an upscale boutique hotel surrounded by tropical gardens on the site of a 17th-century-era sugar plantation. With just 24 rooms and more than a whiff of old-school opulence it feels exclusive, but it’s also decidedly personable and friendly.
