The Sands, Barbados

The Sands, Barbados

Why We Recommend This Resort:

The Sands Barbados is a pleasantly low-key all-inclusive offering spacious condo-type accommodation near Barbados’ famous Worthing Beach.

It is also, conveniently, just a ten-minute drive from the main international airport, so the location is superb on two counts.

How Are the Rooms & Suites?

They have a range of one-, two-, and three-bedroom suites divided between Ocean View and Garden View, with the Ocean Views, not surprisingly, being the more expensive.

All come with air-con, cable TV, tea/coffee stations, safe, WiFi, minibar, iPod docks, irons, and bathrobes amongst other modern conveniences.

Bathrooms come with showers but not bathtubs. All have balconies or, if on the ground floor, patios.

The suites are spacious and comfortably furnished with plenty of seating and lounging space.

They are basically apartments but without much of a kitchen (it’s an all inclusive after all!).

Individual rooms within the suites all come with queen-size beds, or twin beds if preferred.

What’s the Food Like at The Sands, Barbados?

The main restaurant, On The Water, offers both buffet and set menu options with a broad mix of Caribbean and international dishes. The quality of food here, and across the resort, is impressive.

On The Water is open all day and has a smart-casual dress code for evening meals. Also smart-casual is the Noir Restaurant – a fine dining venue with modern Caribbean inspired cuisine.

Noir is open for dinner only, requires reservations, and children under twelve are not allowed.

All food & drink is included in the rate, apart from some champagne and premium wines, and the cocktails are particularly praised at The Sands.

What Things Are There to Do at The Sands, Barbados?

The resort is generally relaxed and quiet, even though it is all-inclusive, and though it sees a number of families. Worthing Beach is one of the finest on the island and there you can enjoy complimentary water sports such as kayaking, paddle boards, body boarding, and snorkeling.

The usual motorized water sports, plus scuba diving lessons, are also available but, as in the vast majority of all-inclusives, for an extra fee.

The two restaurants and the beach bar can get lively in the evenings, though the bar closes at 11pm, and the atmosphere throughout the resort is very friendly and welcoming.

Available for an extra fee are a nice variety of treatments at their Reflections Spa facilities.

As mentioned The Sands is right at the heart of Barbados’s main tourist area and there is a concierge service at the resort to help you organize tours, excursions, etc.

The resort is technically family friendly but doesn’t really seem to have many specific facilities for children – No Kid’s Club for example.

Where is The Sands, Barbados Located?

The resort is in the heart of Barbados’ main entertainment district with a dizzying choice of shops, dining, and nightlife options nearby. There are three other lovely beaches within a 20-minute walk: Turtle Beach, Dover Beach, and Rockley Beach.

It’s also only ten minutes by car from Grantley Adams International Airport, and transfers are of course available to and from the resort.

“The hotel is modern and clean with good-sized rooms, a lovely pool area, a great bar, and a terrific beach. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was average though the rooftop restaurant was very good. The location on the south coast is superb. It is very close to St Lawrence Gap, the boardwalk and several good restaurants heading into Bridgetown. We would happily stay here again…..”
